Summary/Abstract: The Government of the Czech Republic as the chief body of executive government The constitutional system of the Czech Republic was constructed in a very cautious way also considering the fact that foreign system solutions were adopted relatively rarely, whereas most often its construction took place by referring to the experience of Czechoslovakia in the interwar period. There is no doubt, which is actually emphasised in Czech literature, that the main source of inspiration for the creators of the system was the Constitution of the First Czechoslovak Republic of 1920. Both constitutions maintain the same spirit and are based on a similar axiological system. Taking this into consideration, there is no doubt that the constitutional system of the Czech Republic refers directly to the classic parliament and cabinet model, in which the Parliament is the dominating body. However, one may see here a quite significant strengthening of the position of the government at the expense of the position of the president.
