Summary/Abstract: The paper constitutes a part of the Ph.D. disseration the author is currently working on. The conceptualization of human life in the Polish language has not yet been fully described. The contribution aims at presenting a preliminary account of metaphorical imagery as reconstructed on the basis of expressions containing the noun "życie" (‘life’), and providing a detailed analysis of the image schema LIFE IS A HUMAN BEING.
