Main aspects of forgetting in the contemporary Polish

Summary/Abstract: The article aims at reconstructing the linguistic picture of forgetting in contemporary Polish by analyzing utterances that contain the verbs "zapominać / zapomnieć" (‘to forget’) and nouns "zapomnienie" and "niepamięć" (‘forgetfulness’ / ‘oblivion’), excerpted from the National Corpus of Polish. The most important aspects of forgetting are investigated, namely: the subject of the forgetting process, content of forgetting, control over the process, time needed to forget, valuation – in view of both individual and collective memory.
