Summary/Abstract: Innovation has become one of the most important vectors of sustainable enterprise development and economic prosperity of the whole society. Companies must constantly improve or renew their products and services, if they want to keep or capture market share and remain competitive. Legal protection of patents leads to economic, cultural and social progress. Serbia has a very weak position in terms of patenting, partly due to low investments in research and development, and partly because of the enormous costs for international protection.
