Summary/Abstract: Eugène Poujade is one of the few foreign consuls in Bucharest who published in foreign newspapers studies about the Romanian society in the Moldavia and Wallachia Principalities. Along with diplomatic reports sent to the Ministry of Foreign Affaires, they are an important element in studying the aspects of the social, political and economical period called “the reigns of Balta-Liman”. Furthermore, such information, among other sources, is essential in analyzing the life and work of the consul himself, aspects that have been poorly discussed in the historiography. In the texts of the French diplomat one can notice detailed descriptions of places in the past, but also of social groups as the clergy, the noblemen and the peasants.
