Summary/Abstract: The idea of sin that is associated with the late arrival of Christianity in ancient Mexico offers partial insights into perception of evil in this space of culture. On close inspection one identifies here the existence of the notion prior to conquest. Consequently, the notion of evil and of sin needs to be addressed distinctly, as separate from the Christian notion of ‘original sin’.
