Summary/Abstract: "At the Bucharest Congress two decades ago R. Katičić has emphasized that developments in the field of standard languages in Balkans, as connected to the conscious influences upon languages, could be instructive for other regions as well. "Their creation, development and adaptation to the needs of complex contemporary societies have not emerged spontaneously, but they are a result of conscious work" (Katičić, 1986, 198- 9). Regardless the dispersion of the interest of the Balkan-studies conceived as Sprachbund, I think it is important to discuss problems in this respect.
