Summary/Abstract: According to Holy Fathers testimony and taking into account the evolution of the Roman-Byzantine society, it has been stated that the family feeling and the family relationships proved to be more intimate, tighter and stronger in the Byzantine world than in the Roman society. The fact that the Byzantine individual has been less involved into an active sociopolitical life style than the Roman citizen, made him much closer and emotionally more involved in what his own family was concerned. The innovative and purifying effect has been brought by Christianity, which, excepting the deepest human principles springing from its very core, has also brought new customs in the Roman world and which have accompanied the individual life from his birth until his death. Despite the fact that the law has weakened the father’s authority, this becoming a simple protection power, the Byzantine family has always embodied the dimension of a small monarchy pattern. It was under Christianity when the woman and child’s social status have been increasingly improved.
