Moral challenges regarding the family nowadays

Summary/Abstract: Nowadays the family faces entirely different new situations, which devalue its Christian meaning and threaten to collapse it. The causes for the devaluation phenomena are complex: the accentuation of individualism and selfishness, exaggerated selflove and the pursuit of eroticism, the emergence of the new forms of “family”, indifference for the family responsibilities, and the departure abroad of at least one of the spouses to work. These attitudes entail effects which are felt especially in the young family as an institution, but also in all its members, especially children and youngsters: the emergence of single parent families, many newlyweds are in favor of postponing child birth, the increasing number of divorces etc. That is why it is necessary to formulate several proposals, specifically with a spiritual-pastoral character, so that they may serve as a prompt and coherent action of the Church in our contemporary society.
