Summary/Abstract: The author writes about high price of McEwan’s popularity in England since 2001, when his novel ‘’Atonement’’ earned almost unanimously favorable reviews on both sides of the Atlantic. He puts accent on the novel „Saturday“, emphasizes autobiographical elements in it and considers its special place not just in Mr. McEwan’s works but for contemporary fiction in general. According to him it is a book about happiness and bourgeois contentment, that evokes the consolation of family, friendship, a certain degree of middle-class creature comfort, and job satisfaction.
