Summary/Abstract: The author traces some of the essential directions to be followed in the research of the name "Michael" in Transylvania, from the earliest mentions until the first half of the 14th century - one must take into consideration the particular importance the Saint had in the province as patron of the local bishopric church. The review of Saint Michael's cult in Medieval Europe will serve as base of the analysis together with the position of the name "Michael" in the anthroponomical "hierarchy" of the Latin Middle Ages, the cultural area that Transylvania belonged to.
