Summary/Abstract: Western Social Democracy finds itself in the crisis of identity that was confirmed in the unsuccessful elections to the European Parliament in June 2009. As the analysis explains, this crisis is hidden in the historical schisms of social-democratic parties in 20th Century, particularly, the first schism in 1917 between evolutionary and revolutionary Left, the second schism in postwar period between the social-democratic parties and trade-unions, the third schism in the late 60ies and 70ies between traditional and postmodern New Left and finally, the fourth schism in 90ies between old social democracy and Third Way neoliberalism. The shifts of social-democratic mainstream to right-wing orientation and the empty liberal humanism of modern social democracy caused the loss of the traditional electorate which often started to support the right-wing populism. As the analyses concludes, the only way how to combat the present crisis of social-democracy is in the comeback of the old Left values, i.e. social justice, solidarity, strong and active Welfare State and the defense of economic interests of the excluded etc.
