Summary/Abstract: As a massive spiritual presence and mudarris-professor, Ahmed ef. Burek (1876-1948) was most prolific during the period between the two world wars, in the Gazi Husrev Bey madrasa where he taught the following subjects: Islamic morality (ahlaq), dogmatics (aqaid), Arabic, philosophical propaedeutics, Islamic jurisprudence (fiqh), Turkish, interpretation of the Qur'an (tafsir) and Tradition (hadith). He was also Rector and senior lecturer in the Upper School of the Gazi Husrev Bey madrasa (Alijja), which existed during the academic years 1930/31 and 1931/32 (four semesters). From 1939 to 1943 he taught dogmatics, shari'ah law and Islamic traditions in the Higher Islamic Shari'ah Theological School, which lasted for eight semesters. Research has shown that in the broadest sense of the words, and without any false pretensions to compare him as regards any system of values, Ahmed Burek was a personality, at least in his own time, who can be compared on the practical and ethical level with the great Greek philosopher Socrates. For neither Ahmed Burek nor Socrates wrote anything themselves, but yet they left behind them such pithy sentences, so full of meaning, such interpretations, that to this day they find an echo in scientific, philosophical, theological and other knowledge.
