Summary/Abstract: In some parts of the Serbian heritage, erotic was an integral part of magic rituals, and as such, an integral part of everyday life. With the desacralisation of rituals, their status was changing too. Unlike the rest of the collected folk literature, Vuk Karad`i} did not put erotic poems together with other national representatives. These erotic material became a part of private practice in reading, and as such, an object of special aesthetic enjoyment. Once it entered the institution of science, as a part of Karad`i}’s files, this material actually completely lost its status. And years later, after the decision of the SANU in Belgrade to publish this material, it became a document. In her video Balkan Erotic Epic Marina Abramovi} takes elements of ethnological studies based on the erotic in the Slavic folklore and performes her interpretation of “traces” of culture. In her work she is interested in a visual form of the content, but also she moves and re-establishes the borders of the existing stereotypes about the Balkans.
