Summary/Abstract: The aim of the paper is to provide a general background on the political and socio economic situation of Ukraine. The author assesses its current political situation, economic condition and perspectives of energy industry. The final section is devoted to consideration of the prospects for the future of Ukraine in light of government’s decision not to sign the Association Agreement with EU and forthcoming presidential election.
