Summary/Abstract: Stanisław Baliński, one of the most important emigration poets, was connected with this circle of political and cultural life in London that has been described as ‘intransigent’. It determined both his attitude as well as aesthetic choices and view on emigration literature. In 1980, when the volume of Baliński’s poetry Wiersze emigracyjne [Emigration Poems] was published, Baliński was regarded as an elder. Nobody expected that one of his last poems Ty, która jesteś poezją tych, którzy nie mają innej [You, That Are the Poetry of Those Who Have No Other] would be a kind of polemics with Stanisław Barańczak’s poem Określona epoka [Certain Epoch]. It was not a political discussion. On the basis of Barańczak’s statements Baliński formulated the last manifesto of emigration poetry, claiming the rights to remain faithful to his own aesthetics. His choice can be regarded as acceptation for being deprived of time, of political and social hic et nunc in order to remain what is of value besides current time: being faithful to the memories of the lost landscapes of the homeland.
