Summary/Abstract: This paper presents the reasons for Poland’s accession to the EU – perceiving it as a modernization project and as a guarantee of Polish international safety. In the second part of the paper the authors analyze negotiations between Poland and the EU from a political and economic perspective. A number of information about the accession process is provided, as well as an explanation of the negotiation mechanism. The last part of the paper is an analysis of Polish Presidency of the European Union Council and a consideration of future priorities of Poland’s policy in the EU.
