Selling and buying between the East and West – trade and other senses

Summary/Abstract: This paper attempts at performing an analysis of the Italian and Romanian verbs sell and buy, in terms of morphology, use, etymology and semantics. The analysis uses descriptive linguistics and comparative linguistics methods for explaining the distinct evolutions of these verbs in the two languages, highlighting convergent and divergent aspects. Some socio-cultural aspects resulting from this comparative approach are also taken into consideration.
