Summary/Abstract: Indonesia is a state whose foreign policy has been more and more active since its democratization in 1998. The basic principles of this political activity are democracy and Islam. The article aims to describe the Indonesian internal situation and the way it shapes its international political activity as a state combining democratic and Islamic values, and the political initiatives resulting from this identity. The author argues that Indonesia has succeeded in combining the values of Islam and democracy, which could bring the West and Islam closer. However, the stability of this model is limited by an internal factor: social and political issues, and an external factor: mainly, a negative assessment of Islamic countries, undermining the effectiveness of the Indonesian model.
