Summary/Abstract: Hieromonk Antonie Bâznog—Alexandru, by his baptismal name—was born on August 14th 1866 in Sângeorzul Român (today Sângeorz-Băi, Bistriţa-Năsăud). He was one of the Sângeorz emigrants to cross the mountains and reach Mount Athos to become a monk, together with his brother--Hieromonk Ioachim Bâznog.He returned home to fi ght for the renewal of Orthodoxy soon after 1918, in Săcel-Maramureş and also near Cluj, in Feiurd-Pădureni, Câmpeneşti and Chinteni, to build churches and parish houses.He lived a life of prayer and work until February 25th 1939 when he passed away.
