Summary/Abstract: Human needs are mutually connected in a particular hierarchy, according to their strength and priorities. It may be said that the level of aspiration depends on the satisfaction of current needs and whether or not previous requirements have been fulfilled. This statement is particularly important in that certain specific type of needs such as the need for creative work, permanent education, versatility, individual fulfilment etc; these needs would not appear if other more basic and stronger needs were not met. Only when these are met do other requirements which contribute to the real development of the individual's strengths and capabilities appear. Hence, it cannot be expected that a person who has not satisfied the basic needs necessary for his existence can contemplate creative work and the achievement of his own potential. The aim of this research was the analysis of the life and work conditions of scholars under 40 at the University of Novi Sad. The productivity of research work was determined by the degree of participation in scientific research project, publication in national and international journals, and participation in research seminars in this country and abroad. These indicators show that we have a low level of scientific productivity. Living conditions were observed in family and residential environments as well as through answers received in response to questions concerning, for example, to what extent did income satisfy family requirements. Our findings have proved that housing is still the main problem of young people.
