Summary/Abstract: With the study it is tried to determine how Yeni İstanbul Newspaper comprehended the military intervention realized on 27 May 1960. Yeni İstanbul Newspaper, which began to be published in 1949 in İstanbul as a political, economic and independent daily newspaper and whose name was changed in 1973 as İstanbul and which took the name Yeni İstanbul again in 1981 and was closed in the same year, is recalled as a press organ which was the supporter of Justice Party in the history of Turkish press. Yeni İstanbul Newspaper followed a publication line based on anti-communism and defense of sacred and morale. The newspaper struggled for the fact that the voter base of Democrat Party did not disperse after the 27th Maythrough its publication line and placed wrtings and articles in its papers claiming that Justice Party was the successor of Democrat Party after the establishment of Justice Party. It should be stated that no enough data about Yeni İstanbul Newspaper is existent in the literature of history of Turkish press. Therefore, it is thought that the study will be a valuable contribution to the literature in the sense of removing this deficiency at a certain rate. The study is formed of three parts. In the first part the publication line of Yeni İstanbul Newspaper is came to light, in the second part the approach of the newspaper toward economic, political and social problems is summarized and in the third part the comprehension of 27th May of the newspaper is given to place. It is thought that the study is important in the sense of contributing in the discussions on the legitimacy of 27th May.
