Summary/Abstract: Founded in 1678, as a result of the flourishing trade with Turkish goods, the Greek Commercial Company in Brasov played an important part in the foreign and transit trade of Transylvania generally and of Brasov especially for a long period of time. Due to the privileges granted by the Transylvanian princes and confirmed by the Hapsburg Empire, it could enjoy the liberty of Turkish goods wholesale, judiciary autonomy, i.e. the right to judge the trials among its members, and its own administrative organization. Thus, a new economic organization and a new privileged social status were created within the town’s institutional and administrative frame, while the town must have raised the problem of the establishment of the relations between the company and the urbane economic institutions.
