Summary/Abstract: According to the European concept of “unity in diversity“, one of the basic values of the Union is to maintain the cultural diversity of its member states. This diversity is a basis for building the idea of a European identity which should be a result of an effort to create a European unity. Since language is not only a part but the main cultural medium of every nation, the preservation of national languages of member states must remain the basis for the spiritual development of the Union, as well as Europe as such. Language is not only used for national, regional or local level communication but also on international level which is the main focus of the EU and therefore the question of linguistics is an important issue for the Union.
