Summary/Abstract: Focuses on the northern transylvanian village of Weilau (Uila, Vajola) that used to be a place populated with a majority of transylvanian saxons. The significant Roma-population shares the evangelic confession with the saxon inhabitants. After the exodus of most of the transylvanian-saxon community, Romas are accepted in the village, even if outside they are perceived as "gipsies" like other romanian Roma. The contribution disusses the stereotypes about "gipsies", comparing them with empiric evidence. It can be shown that specific geographical, historical and social circumstances allowed the local Roma population to assume a higher degree of responsability than elswhere. Considering these finidings, stereotypes about "gipsies" can not be confirmed.
