Summary/Abstract: For different reasons, many transylvanian saxons found themselves in Germany after World War II. Based on their traditional communal spirit, many initiatives of self-help and mutual assistance were founded. The article presents different organisations in the zones of occupation of the western allied forces. During the cold war, Germany became more and more a new home for the transylvanian saxons, where they began to integrate, also thanks to their institutions, including neighbouhoods, publications, cultural and scientific institutions. With the constant afflux of new transylvanian saxon who emigrated from Romania, Germany became the centre of gravity for this community, while the remaining saxon population in Transylvania was reduced to a small group.
