Summary/Abstract: The paper analyses the foreign direct investment (FDI) patterns and developments in Lithuania in the late transition period. The research is based on the survey in which 104 companies with foreign equity took part. The motives of foreign investment are investigated in relation to the modes of investing in companies. The authors determine the ranking of motives for foreign investment in companies of different sectors of the Lithuanian economy and with different modes of FDI. The process of privatisation acquisitions in Lithuanian companies is examined and its influence on the general FDI results is shown.
