Summary/Abstract: This article approaches the theme of a genre that enjoys the attention of a faithful target audience: science fiction. The author analyzes, through the theories of technological determinism, and especially McLuhan's theory, symbolic communication, ideological analysis and also from the perspective of christian mythology, the film The Abyss, directed by James Cameron. The analysis is not take out of context because the film is also interpreted from the historical perspective of the Cold War.
