Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the beginnings of international cooperation in historical sciences since World War One. Attention is given in particular to Czechoslovak participation at the 5th and 6th international congresses in Brussels (1923) and Oslo (1928) and establishment of International Committee of Historical Sciences (CISH). However all the development is framed by major political tendencies (impact of WWI or improvement of international relations in mid 1920s). Major Czechoslovak historians and their impact on international historiography is discussed too. Out of the four international historical congresses in-between-wars the one in Brussels is explained as standing in the shadow of the Great War when for instance German historians were not invited to the capital of Belgium. As opposed to that, Oslo congress appears to be the most significant achievement on international cooperation in historical sciences from 1918–1938.
