Reasons for Emigration of the Bulgarian People

Summary/Abstract: Coming out of the historical facts and the traditions in the process of emigration of the Bulgarian people the author points to the main causes for the emigratio n of this compatriots. To justify his thesis he is making use of historical examples. The author systemizes the causes leading to emigration basically as economic, political, religious and psychological. He discusses also the present state of emigration. In his view the slow pace of democratic changes in Bulgarian postcommunist society, the liberalization of the regulations for leaving the country, the sort of education of the young people in the time of the Communist regime in a nihilistic, anti-nationalistic spirit and the resulting economic catastrophy, arenthe factors which led to the growing number of emigrats from Bulgaria. In conclusion the author stresses that emigration is a complex psychological phenomenon which is the result of long deliberation, of much pain and desparation and of impasse, too.
