Summary/Abstract: Israeli kibbutzim are one of the unique social phenomena of our time. They are egalitarian economic and rural communities which have successfully existed since the beginning of this centry to the present day. The article discusses several issues closely related to their demographic development: sources of demographic growth, position of the family and generation chanhges in society. The kibbutzim take active part in absorbing the flaw of emigrants who periodically flood Israel. In the last years kibbutzim communities receive also a number of the refugees from the former socialist countries and mainly the former U.S.S.R. The demographic processes are analyzed on the backgroung of the specifics of the kibbutzim as community entities and on the present socio-economic situation in which the kibbutzim are at the end the 80-ies and the beginning of the 90-ies of this century.
