Summary/Abstract: This paper proposes an interpretation of one of N. Chernyshevsky’s censored statements exposing his view on the Patriotic War of 1812. The phrase about the “glorious dangers” together with the recognition of the people’s feat implied at that time a risky allusion to the frustrated hopes of the peasant-winner to get liberation from serfdom. The paper is aimed at complementing the existing descriptions of the publicist’s historical views.
