Summary/Abstract: Adriana Babeti, Gabriela Coltescu, Gabriel Kohn, Mircea Mihaies take part in the discussion regarding identity as a concept, discussion which takes the readers into more specific details, such as election-results, intercultural transfers in the Banat region, multilingual authors and their work in the same area etc. The modernity of the concept of Central Europe is sustained by its refusal to settle down within the limitations of a fixed, generalised, identity. Arguments and counterarguments are brought on the subject of intercultural cohabitation, the participants in the talks offering a series of interesting supporting examples. The article continues in fact the transcription of the discussion that took place in May 2001 between the members and students of the Third Europe Foundation and Horia Roman Patapievici. The talks are published in light of the hypotheses they formulate, highly illustrative for the theme of the present issue. The dialogue is seen as an example of open intellectual communication, based on ideas and not on politically biased attitudes and preferences
