Summary/Abstract: Different types and degrees of visual impairments impact on motor, social and emotional functions. An unfavourable social context, an inability to achieve a complete insight into one’s own physical manifestation as well as the presence of an imbalance between the ‘imaginary’ and ‘real’ self-image of blind and visually impaired persons, may cause many negative effects in body-image and self-experience. With that in mind, the aim of the research was to test the influence of dance movement therapy on the body-image of visually impaired adolescent girls. The research was conducted on a sample of 5 low vision adolescent girls attending the ‘Vinko Bek’ Rehabilitation Centre. Variables related to the mechanisms of coping with body-image and the relationship between body-image experience and quality of life were defined for research purposes. The obtained data were processed by method of quantum changes under the model differences between two time points. The results show that using dance movement therapy induced an improvement in some aspects of body-image on the sample included in this investigation. The results also indicate the need for further research relating to coherence between different types and degrees of visual impairments and changes in body-image by using dance movement therapy as a complementary method in education and rehabilitation.
