Summary/Abstract: Excavations were pursued in the eastern and north-eastern part of the area adjacent to the enclosure wall of the step pyramid on the latter’s west side. The upper stratum brought to light new burials from the Ptolemaic Period, and the lower stratum yielded new Old Kingdom funerary structures including, among others, a rock-hewn corridor ending with an unfinished room found below an extensive platform built of mudbricks. The shape and dimensions of the “false tomb” resemble the features of some tombs, the date of which precedes the 6th Dynasty. Continued was also exploration of the subterranean part of the tomb belonging to a high official named Nyankhnefertem.
