Summary/Abstract: In the given article the author renders a survey of British drama, briefly examining its condition at the beginning of the century and drawing the parallels of this great nation’s drama with other European dramatic art. The article subsequently discusses the development trends from the first and then the second half of the past century, stressing the influences and models, both foreign and domestic, dramatic authors in Britain have followed. Special focus is given to five dominant subgenres: kitchen-sink drama, Epic theatre in Britain, comic theatres, language-criticising pieces, and metatheatrical dramas.
