Summary/Abstract: As a result of social, economic and political changes of the last two decades the role of the once strong national, central governments weakened. On the one hand the institutions of development policy changed, while on the other the European integration process deepened, thus new political and economic networks emerged. The investigation of local networks and relationships became more and more important in researches into local power relations, political system and also in researches into rural developmental policy. Thus researches of local networks became important issues both on political science and sociology. The study presents and compares the European and Hungarian rural networks, it analyses how the concept is represented in rural studies. The paper discusses the methods of network-analysis used by the European and Hungarian researchers and presents the main differences between their methods.
