Summary/Abstract: Professor Osman Bakar is one of the leading authorities in history and philosophy of Islamic studies and in this short paper he looks at historical trends of Islamic studies which reached its peak in 11th and 12th centuries according to the Gregorian calendar. As a paradigm of the overwhelming rise of the Islamic civilisation, which included social, political, scientific and religious development and establishment of Muslims in all the different parts of the Islamic world, the author rightly selected Andalusia, where, thanks to Muslim philosophers and scholars, intellectual and scientific tradition of Islam flourished over the centuries indicated as the focus of the study. However, due to the complexity of the content of such a wide subject, the author had to limit himself to a limited review of Islamic science, presented through several natural and technological disciplines, appearing for the very first time in the given period, again thanks to the enlightened spirit and the intellectual curiosity of Muslim scientists. In addition to this general presentation of the historical rise of natural sciences in Andalusia and the explicit references to the most prominent Muslim scientists, the importance of this paper is reflected in the fact that the Golden Age of Islamic cultural and scientific tradition could only happen through dedicated philosophical and scientific work of all peoples, irrespective of their religious or racial background.
