Summary/Abstract: The subject matter of the paper is the term transcendence in the philosophical thought of Karl Jaspers. For the philosopher from Oldenburg, transcendence, as non-worldly, eternal and indefinite, is the Absolute Reality or God. The text reveals three modalities of transcending, which Jaspers offers as an attempt of reaching transcendence. Casting some light on the realm of the Encompassing, existence reveals transcendence as its own source and something that is self-sustainable. Finally, Jasper’s explication of the term transcendence, which is sedimented in his idea of philosophical faith, opens new horizons to communication and the possibility of analysis with different forms of religious faith.
