Summary/Abstract: The aims of this study are the theoretical grounding of environmental democracy, the placement of this theory among the main democracy theories and also to describe the practical basis of environmental thinking. Environmental theory is a new paradigm of the democracy theories. If we think about de mocracy as a process of evolution we can separate the ‘conventional’ democracy theories (representative, direct, participative and deliberative paradigms) from the new approach of democracy. In this study environmental democracy is described as a communicative, refl exive theory. According to my main thesis this aspect of democracy is the paradigm of the 21st century, but the theoretical grounding has not been completed as yet, so I offer some ori en tations of the research.
