Romanian Elements in the Bulgarian Vocabulary – Based On The Bulgarian Dialectal Atlas

Summary/Abstract: This article attempts to trace the oral Bulgarian vocabulary borrowings from Romanian and discuss their spreading over the Bulgarian territory. We have considered the results of recent research in linguistic geography, etymology, lexicography and observations regarding the ethno-cultural reality. We have reached the conclusion that many answers included in a Bulgarian lexical quiz contain words of Romanian origin: mămăligă, mălai, leucă, bordei, cucuruz, barză.
