Summary/Abstract: The paper is focused on the scandalous writer Marquis de Sade, his appurtenance to the Age of ENLIGHTENMENT. Our goal is to examine Sade’s work & its cultural background – the „Ancien Régime“, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, the Social contract, the Great French Revolution, the French materialism & etc. We’ll try to understand his philosophical positions as a discomfort, juxtaposed with the main ideals of his time.
