Summary/Abstract: The article dwells on a hypothesis of an incipient interpretative duality of the moral philosophy of Socrates on the basis of the following assertions: 1/ the issue of the credibility of sources has been put in a wrong way; 2/ the direct and indirect sources of the Socratic teaching do not bind it directly with a definite interpretation; 3/ the two main types of interpreting the philosophy of Socrates – those of Hegel and Kirkegor – lay the foundation of a prorationalistic and hence of a proexitential viewpoint on this philosophy; 4/ these two types of interpretation do not exclude each other but are rather feasible as an integral interpretation of the moral teaching of Socrates.
