Summary/Abstract: The campaigns of Nicopolis (1396) and Varna (1444) represent two outstanding moments of the late epoch of the Crusades. In both contexts, the Christian armies met with outer defeat. The author reveals a comparison between the two campaigns, from the perspective of historical exegesis, in order to throw into relief the causes which triggered the tragic outcome on the battlefields. The Romanian Countries are privileged in this exegesis, as during the XIVth and XVth centuries they played an important role in the anti-ottoman fight.
