Summary/Abstract: RESUME In 2000 in Lisbon the European Council launched a strategy to improve the competitiveness of the EU labour markets. Thanks to the Lisbon criteria the measurement of the progress within the Member States has been facilitated due to the exact numerical targets. Despite this fact, behind the figures obtained hides the fact that in some Member States part-time employment is more extensively used than in others, which influences the total employment rates. The aim of this paper is to compare the labour market based on full-time employment equivalents (FTE) and analyse the positive aspects as well as possible threats of the parttime employment in the EU.
