Summary/Abstract: In the European musical creation the Jewish themes were very much present starting with the 18th century, especially in the vocal-symphonic works or in operas. Carissimi or Handel are perfect examples in this regard. Gioacchino Rossini focused on biblical themes during both his creation periods. In his operas exploring Moses' figure he promoted a new musical concept, imposing new rules which were taken into account by all his successors. The study shows the way in which Rossini managed to surpass the conventionalism of Italian theatre, but also the novelty he brought in opera by analyzing the relations between his characters.
