Strategy of women integration into Armed forces: the gender taboo against military tactics

Summary/Abstract: The modification of Russian army’s structure, aimed at creating a professional contract-based army, led to a large number of women deciding to join the Army. This fact changed the gender composition of the military society, but according to the traditional view army service is seen as an attribute of masculinity; it’s a necessary initiation of a boy’s transition to the status of man. It provokes practices of women’s exclusion from military society. This article is devoted to the results of the socio-cultural analysis of the gender structure’s transformation in the military sphere under patriarchy conditions.
