Summary/Abstract: Hungarian Community Media in Romania: Content Regulation of Comments Recently, thanks to the opportunities offered by the Internet, media providers have not only been publishing their own content online, as the shared content is free to be commented on. In many cases, comments appear without a name and sometimes entail a libel, an instigation, a calumny or some other legal category or ethical delinquency. At the same time, the meaning and importance of the shared content is diminished by the dozens of anonymous comments. It is not only the genre of internet comments that is yet uncertain, but their legal and ethical status, too. Our study examines the content regulation practice of the Hungarian internet pages in Romania. Based on the case of some internet pages it is being studied on what criteria the comments that are posted are being selected and whether there is any kind of written rule with regard to selection. Further, we are discussing who and how assumes responsibility for the published content. At the end we shall discuss to what extent the moderator is legally and ethically responsible for the premoderation of comments viewed as edited content.
