DEBATE: – Poland–France: a Strategic Partnership for the 21st Century?

Summary/Abstract: The authors address the nature of the notion of "strategic partnership" and of its abuse in today's international relations. They analyze the state of Polish-French relations as well as sense of continued cooperation as part of the Weimar Triangle. The two men agree that the present situation require the creation of new structures for bilateral cooperation. Despite clear differences in the Polish and French foreign policies with regard to Russia, the conflict in the Caucasus and the intervention in Afghanistan, the strengthening of the EU's role on the international stage remains a common challenge for the two countries.
