Summary/Abstract: The article focuses on communicative memories of the Second World War in contemporary Croatia and Serbia. It examines the relevance of emotions in developing traditions of historical consciousness as well as political norms and values in the post-socialist area. Directly relevant to Croatia’s and Serbia’s developmental path is how and if at all the previous ideological abuses of the war years are evaluated. This is particulary true with regard to the collaborationist and partisan resistance movements. Moreover, that which the ancestors did, and what they were, can not but be the object of a constant communication among the various generations. The contribution advances its argument by examining the narratives of new approaches and interpretations of the Second World War as well as the issue of shifting allegiances after the end of communism
